Trivia, AD was created on a whim and caught on thanks to its appeal to movie, television, book, and pop culture enthusiasts. With a following of like-minded fans, our goal is to deliver fun, custom trivia events that cater to both dedicated fans and casual players. Through painstaking design and relentless attention to detail, Trivia, AD promises an enjoyable, unique trivia experience!
How It Works
Arrive early to get the best seat – whether to you that means by the bar, the trivia host or the bathrooms – order your food, your drinks, and do some light mental stretching with your friends. Get your idle chatting out before the host gets on the mic, because once he or she does you’ll want to give them your full attention! They’ll explain (although you’ll already know, since you prepared by reading this page, you striver) that the game consists of five rounds – General Knowledge, True False, Quotes, Character Identity, and the fast and furious Lightning Round…which is more general knowledge, just tougher and faster. Each question of every round will be read twice, and at the END of each round, the host will ask if anyone needs a question re-read. This applies to all but the Lightning Round, during which the questions will be read only twice and will not be repeated. Your team will receive a separate answer sheet for each round, which will be handed out before the beginning of each and collected at the end, when you will get the next answer sheet. Be sure to put your terribly original and incredibly witty team name on every one of your answer sheets to ensure you’re given credit for each and every point you worked so hard to obtain. Lastly, we love the passion participants bring to our events; in fact the only thing we love more is honesty and integrity, which is why we know we don’t have to worry about anyone cheating... right? All cell phones, smart phones, dumb phones, iPads, iTouches, laptops, GPSs, transistor radios et al must be put away while questions are being asked. Between rounds, knock yourselves out ignoring everyone at your table. But honestly, you can go approximately 15 minutes without texting that guy you shouldn’t be texting until he texts you first.
PRIVATE & CORPORATE EVENTS
We have the ability to customize any type of trivia event, including birthdays, bar/bat mitzvahs, bachelor/bachelorette parties, weddings, graduations and more. Our corporate team-building trivia events help companies bond through a detailed and fun experience.
Introducing the hardest working Trivia Team in the business!
President & Founder
Dave simply isn’t human. It is widely speculated that he never sleeps, but if he does, there is no doubt he continues to design trivia answer sheets in his dreams. As President and Founder of Trivia, AD, his tireless leadership and vision is what keeps this business growing. He has 3 passions in life, (NY Yankees Baseball, Pearl Jam & Seinfeld) unless his wife is reading this, in which case he has 1 and it is her. Dave is a proud father and strives for perfection in everything he does, including his hair, although he inexplicably insists on covering it with a baseball cap more often than not.
Kara Oliver, an administrator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and freelance copyeditor, is a long-time trivia buff thanks to a knack for remembering movie & tv quotes and random facts for no apparent reason. Equally as interested in pop culture, sports and mindless TV as she is in art, literature and Antiques Roadshow, she is happy to be a part of Trivia AD’s unique, fun, challenging events for fellow trivia fans. Originally from upstate NY, Kara has lived in Hoboken for 14 years, enjoys watching the Yankees win, judging beauty pageants from her couch in her pjs, finding editing mistakes in books, and considers winning $500 on Cash Cab the highlight of her trivia “career”.
Scott ingests media for sustenance. Movies, books, music and television are his life blood. At the ripe age of 7, he climbed a frost-covered mountain to catch an episode of DuckTales. At 15, he walked on hot coals to win a Pearl Jam b-side. He is a world renowned rock chiseler, a hobby he took up to be more like Andy Dufresne. He worked for 7 years as a video store clerk, and twice found a way to have original screenplays count for course credit in law school. He knows a lot about a lot, and a little about everything.
Lauren Parisi, “LP”, is a self proclaimed Jedi knight, who loves random facts and can recall minor details from TV shows and movies from years past, yet ask her what she had for breakfast? Not a clue. She is super excited to be a part of Trivia, A.D. because it allows her geekiness to finally be put to good use! Originally from central Jersey, LP has been living in Hoboken for 5 years now, along with her cat Princess Leia, and can normally be found double fisting at many of Hoboken’s local watering holes. LP enjoys excessively shopping on Amazon, rooting for the NY Jets no matter what anyone says, Googling things to prove she is right, and knowing that Googling is an acceptable verb nowadays.
Bobby is a New Jersey born lad and is not ashamed to admit it. He attended college at Marymount Manhattan College with a degree in acting. When he’s not shouting King Lear on the street for nickels he is a temp for corporate America. However, he is also a TV buff that shouldn’t be messed with. He is very excited to join the Trivia AD team because it provides a good outlet for him to talk about the unjust cancellation of Firefly. In his spare time he likes to cook, ask his roommates what he’s good at so he can finish his bio and continue on his quest to find New York’s best bagel.
When it comes to Trivia AD, Sage is a longtime listener, first time caller. As an eighth grader in Pennsylvania, her classmates predicted that, in 15 years time, Sage would “play Phoebe in the Friends movie,” but unfortunately the phone never rang. Instead she spends her business hours marketing stuff, at least until she finally hears that “vworp vworp” sound and a blue police box materializes nearby. A part-time pop culture blogger and reporter, Sage is adding Trivia AD to the list of pursuits that legitimize her binge-watching proclivities and passion for uber-geeky fan conventions. One time she met Danny Castellano at an event and he told her her hair was pretty.
World Heavyweight Champ
He’s been training for this day for the last 28 years. Performing in low-budget arenas, independent scenes… now finally called the big leagues. A chance to prove to those who came before him, he is that damn good. And now, after all these years, his time has finally come… to rule the trivia world. Thanks to TBS and ABC Family, the World Champ has seen every 90’s sitcom 100 times over. From Screech’s robot Kevin on Saved by the Bell, to Little Cory Matthews, Shawn Hunter’s pet pig so appropriately named on Boy Meets World, Big Jay knows it all. And he will guide you on your trivia journey to be the best. But, to quote one of the greats, to be the man, you gotta beat the man. Will you challenge the Champ? Or hang your head in shame? The choice is yours, and yours alone (Legends of the Hidden Temple).
Christina is constantly in motion. A pantologist, she conquers it all, and does it well. She has a healthy imagination, a happy-go-lucky attitude, and excels at elevating small talk to medium talk. Living for the adrenaline rush, she wrote a letter to Ellen DeGeneres asking to be put in a shark cage in the middle of the ocean with Great Whites. She enjoys adventures and sports that test your strength, stamina, and mental grit, and is just as comfortable running barefoot though the mud as she is dancing in heels and a dress. Christina is patiently waiting to catch a foul ball at a Yankees game and believes that some people are just not meant to play The Clock Game on The Price is Right.
Born and raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn – a rarity that is extinct like dinosaurs in 2013 – Christina is a true Brooklyn girl (it takes Mean Girl to a whole new level, and on Wednesdays she wears pink). With a degree in History, Christina exemplifies many different levels of nerd. Her quirks and obsessions span every part of culture, from DaVinci paintings, the Catholic Church and The New York Mets (Hey, Ya Gotta Believe!), to Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls and ANYTHING Walt Disney. She shows no mercy when it comes to her unhealthy obsession with Full House as well as her love for Back to the Future, which will knock the 1.21 gigawatts out of your DeLorean! The perfect mix of punk rock and hip hop, bebop, dance ‘til ya drop and yo-yo, make a wicked cup of cocoa (and some awesome cupcakes to go with it), Christina is excited to be part of the Trivia AD Team, where her fount of somewhat useless knowledge can finally be tapped.
Some have called Nicole Dubato the “Gretchen Weiners” of celebrity pop culture- she knows everything about everyone. Born and raised on Long Island, she grew up on a healthy diet of Boy Meets World and Disney movies. She is currently the youngest member of the Trivia, AD family, but do not let that fool you. Nicole speaks fluently in movie and television quotes, and integrates them into her everyday conversation (despite the pleas of her friends and family to stop). She frequently prays to the TV Gods about a Friends or Friday Night Lights reunion, and will never give up hope. Nicole is excited about her new venture with Trivia, AD, where she can finally share her gifts with the rest of the world.
Ryan is our resident Australian. While he has never wrestled a crocodile, he HAS convinced his Beautiful American Wife that Vegemite is breakfast of champions. Many wasted adolescent years spent watching Seinfeld and Simpsons reruns (on one of the five – yes, five – TV channels available in Australia in the dark days known as the 1990s) painted a picture of the USA that Ryan just had to come and see for himself.
Raised by a group of Elvis Impersonators outside Memphis, Meredith has always had an affinity for sequins. She enjoys traveling, collecting a wide variety of airsick bags from around the world. Meredith has 11 tattoos, including an ex-boyfriend’s social security number across her neck. Loves Cosplay and singing tunes to her favorite musical, “Taller Than A Dwarf”. The Williamsburg native hopes to become an IMAX Screen Cleaner someday, but she isn’t tall enough.
Abby grew up in New Hampshire, so she’s definitely a New Englander at heart. She went to Connecticut College where she studied International Relations and Russian. FYI, she can be convinced to show off her Russian skills if you bribe her with drinks at a dive bar. Abby enjoys spending time outside and gardening, occasionally being found helping out in Prospect Park. Her frequent Netflix binges have definitely paid off and she can finally make use of all her TV knowledge. She is excited to join the Trivia, AD team, especially to prove her obsession with all things Joss Whedon.
I’m Gabrielle DeMasi, born and raised in the Bronx and just recently graduated from Fairfield University with a major in marketing communications. “Friends” has inappropriately been my favorite show since I was 6 years old and if you need a quote, reference or fact, I’m your girl! My love for “Friends” has hence given way to my harmless obsession for NBC, TV and all things pop culture! I’ve seen about every show under the sun, and can’t wait to be a part of Trivia AD’s team and share my love for tv with others. Fun and bizarre facts include, but are not limited to, being pulled on stage during a Keith Urban concert, working as a personal intern for a “Real Housewife”, and being a total Billy Joel junkie.
Erin grew up by the Jersey Shore (no, it’s not anything like the show) and moved to Manhattan in 2009. As a pre-teen, Erin was convinced she would become a millionaire from her fan websites for ‘N Sync, 7th Heaven, and BBMak and from her investment in hundreds of Beanie Babies. Instead, she became a banker slash travel blogger, spending time walking the entire length of Broadway in a day, taking trapeze lessons, and going on bird-watching tours. Erin can frequently be found hogging a table for hours at Shake Shack while filling out the New York Magazine crossword puzzle with friends, refreshing her Instagram feed every 3 minutes, and shaking her head at people walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk. Dinosaur jokes are the way to her heart.
Master of Domain
Tom passed his dreams so long ago, they’re now chasing him. He has a 3rd place trophy for “competitive jogging in place” and countless participation ribbons. He’s been fired from more jobs than he’s been hired for and was recently allowed to sit at the adult table at his family’s Thanksgiving. In addition to being hilarious and charming, he’s hilarious and charming. His retention of Seinfeld knowledge exceeds anything he learned anywhere, ever. A reformed Van Buren boy, he is currently aspiring to the level of enlightenment only attainable by completing the Ron Swanson “Pyramid of Greatness.” He is currently on “Skim Milk: Avoid it.” Tom read a book once. Yada yada yada – and then he joined Trivia, AD.
Alex grew up in a small town outside Hartford, Connecticut and has a sixth sense that tells her when she’s close to a Dunkin’ Donuts. She moved to New York in 2010 when she transferred to Barnard College to study Theatre and American Studies, and she has not found a way to leave this damn city yet! She works for Stage Door Connections, a company that acts as a resource for musical theater performers, and freelances in writing, editing, and theatre and film production and performance. Her idols include Hermione Granger, Lorelai Gilmore, and Rose Tyler, and her hobbies include rushing plays, binging television shows on Netflix, and scoping out sweet deals at every used bookstore in New York.
Shmoney Dance Enthusiast
Hailing from Browne Town, USA (picture Brooklyn meets E. Brunswick, NJ meets Staten Island), Brian is a St. John’s alum and music business professional. He’s an even bigger music and sports junkie (Ravens, Mets and Knicks). His multiple failed audition attempts for Jeopardy! and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has had many calling him the Charles Barkley of trivia. When he’s not busy reciting lines from Purple Rain, he’s watching reruns of some of his favorite shows including Saved By The Bell, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Blossom. An aficionado of useless knowledge, Brian is excited to bring his talents to the Trivia AD team.
Alyssa is a true pop culture junkie. The summer she was 12 she watched every Back to the Future movie, incessantly. Before binge watching was cool she attempted to catch every Dawson’s Creek episode on TV every morning. Her interests span the spectrum from the gritty Breaking Bad to the softer Full House. During the day she watches, for a living, what everyone else skips over, commercials! She’s excited to join the team because it legitimizes all the “training” she’s been doing for this on Netflix. Oh and she’s probably A from Pretty Little Liars, because that’s as good a guess as any!
If there is one thing Aliza knows it’s all things entertainment. Growing up as a self-proclaimed television and movie junkie, she has spent years preparing for this gig at Trivia, AD by watching and re-watching shows that range from Full House to Sex and the City and everything in between. She loves TV so much that her dog’s name is Telley, which she isn’t embarrassed to admit is short for Television. Hailing from the great state of Texas, Aliza has lived in many awesome places the past few years from attending school at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS (ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK) to Orlando, FL where she worked for 10 months as different characters at Disney World (Mickey, Minnie, Donald just to name a few) to Kansas City, MO (best barbecue in the world) and now to NYC! Aliza may be a newbie to the amazing city, but she is so excited to be here and to especially be joining the Trivia, AD team where she can constantly talk about her love of all things TV and movies without being looked at like there are better things in life to talk about.
